Middle School

Through programs, extracurricular activities, and a focus on our core values, the Middle & High School curriculum at Al-Qalam Academy remains committed to the children. Building social and practical skills is given special attention in order to prepare students for successful integration into any high school program they choose to attend after graduating from Al-Qalam Academy. Along with Arabic, Quran, Islamic Studies, physical education, art, and coding. The curriculum is also governed by grade-level from the Virginia Standards of Learning & Fairfax County Public Schools.

The Middle School program at Al-Qalam Academy uses a structured, well-rounded curriculum that incorporates the school’s own educational framework along with the Virginia Standards of Learning and guidance from Fairfax County Public Schools. This alignment ensures that students meet state academic requirements while benefiting from the Academy’s additional areas of focus.

The curriculum covers core academic subjects—language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies—alongside Arabic, Qur’an, Islamic Studies, physical education, art, and a comprehensive robotics and coding program. Each subject area is taught with attention to both content mastery and the development of skills that students will need in their next stage of education.

Instruction is supported by clear teaching guidelines, selected instructional materials, and ongoing professional development for teachers. These measures help ensure lessons are aligned with standards, appropriate for grade level, and responsive to student needs.

Social and practical skill development is an intentional part of the Middle School program. Students participate in structured activities and classroom practices that strengthen communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making. These skills are emphasized to prepare students for a smooth transition into any high school program they choose after completing their studies at Al-Qalam Academy.

Extracurricular activities are offered to extend learning and allow students to apply knowledge and skills in different contexts. Together, the academic curriculum, skills instruction, and extracurricular opportunities provide a consistent and comprehensive learning experience for all Middle School students.
