About Our Principal

ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you

My name is Kulsum Saleh, and I am honored to serve as the Principal of Al-Qalam Academy. With over two decades of experience in education and school leadership, I am deeply passionate about fostering an environment where students grow not only in knowledge but also in character, faith, and confidence.

I firmly believe in nurturing the whole child—academically, spiritually, and socially—in a way that reflects the beautiful balance taught in Islam. At Al-Qalam Academy, we proudly align our academic curriculum with the standards set by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) while embedding a strong foundation in Islamic Studies, Qur’an, and Arabic language. This holistic approach allows us to provide our students with the best of both worlds: academic excellence and a values-based Islamic education.

In collaboration with our dedicated staff, I strive to ensure that each child entrusted to us is supported, challenged, and uplifted in a way that reflects the Prophetic model of mercy, discipline, and wisdom.

On a personal note, I am a proud mother of four children, alḥamdu lillāh (ٱلْـحَـمْـدُ للهِ). Balancing family life with my role as principal has only deepened my empathy and appreciation for the sacred trust (amānah – أمانة) that parents place in us. It is an incredible responsibility—and one we hold with sincerity, care, and deep respect.

I am truly grateful—alḥamdu lillāh—to be part of this vibrant and growing school community. I look forward to working in partnership with each of you as we continue to build an institution that prepares our children for success in both this life and the Hereafter.

جَزَاكُمُ ٱللّٰهُ خَيْرًا
May Allah reward you with goodness
for your trust, support, and ongoing involvement.
